What it is
Trekking and climbing hardware is life-safety equipment. Every item carries a standard marking, a rated strength and a service life, and none of it should be bought second hand or used past the manufacturer retirement date.
What is included
- Certified hardware with the standard marking visible
- Compatibility check across the full system
- Manufacturer service life and retirement date
- Pre-use inspection guidance
- Invoice and traceable batch reference
How it works
Discipline and terrain
We separate what you actually do: hiking with poles, via ferrata, sport climbing or trad, because the hardware barely overlaps.
Certification check
We confirm the CE or UIAA marking and rated load for every load-bearing item, and we show you where it is stamped.
System compatibility
We check that harness, rope diameter, belay device and carabiners work together as a system rather than as separate purchases.
Inspection routine
We hand over the retirement dates and show you what to inspect before each use.
Frequent questions
How long does a rope or harness last?
It depends on use and on the manufacturer limit, typically a few years of regular use and up to ten from date of manufacture even unused. Any hard fall or visible damage retires it immediately.
Can I buy climbing gear second hand?
We advise against it. You cannot verify fall history, storage conditions or chemical exposure, and any of the three can compromise the item invisibly.
Do trekking poles need certification?
Poles are not life-safety equipment, so they are not rated the same way. What matters there is lock mechanism, tip type and shaft material.
