What it is
A tent is rated by the conditions it is built for, not by how many people fit inside it. Season rating, hydrostatic head of the flysheet, pole material and the way the inner and outer are pitched decide whether it holds up in wind and rain or becomes a problem at two in the morning.
What is included
- Tent with inner, flysheet and poles
- Pegs matched to the ground you camp on
- Repair sleeve and spare guy line
- Pitching walkthrough before you leave
- Care and drying instructions in writing
How it works
Use case
We ask where you camp: established sites, backcountry approach, altitude or coastal wind. The answer changes the model more than the price does.
Capacity and weight
We balance sleeping space against carried weight, because the rated capacity assumes shoulder-to-shoulder sleeping with no gear inside.
Weather rating
We check hydrostatic head for flysheet and groundsheet, pole diameter and the guy-line layout for the wind you expect.
Pitch and handover
We pitch the tent in the shop with you so the first time is not in the dark and in the rain.
Frequent questions
What does a season rating mean?
Three-season handles spring to autumn rain and moderate wind. Four-season adds snow loading and stronger poles, at a weight and ventilation cost you will notice the rest of the year.
Can I leave a tent packed wet?
No. Pack wet to get home, then pitch or hang it to dry the same day. Storing a damp tent is the single fastest way to ruin the coating.
Do I need a footprint?
It is optional but cheap protection. A footprint takes the abrasion the groundsheet would otherwise take, and is far easier to replace.
